“This is an extremely vulnerable and emotional time for my family and I. I could have never imagined losing any of my children,” Latrice Felton, the victim’s mother says on the website. “Saniya was my only daughter – my youngest child. Anyone that knows me, knew that she was my mini person. As I write this I am thinking of all of the fun times we spent together and the massive void that I will live with forever.”

Latrice, who said they are now “homeless and without shelter and any other necessary possessions,” then went on to describe watching the house burn down as they stood there “helpless.”

Thanking the first responders for their “bravery and action” as well the community and family members that have “stepped up during this time,” Latrice asked for donations to assist with funeral expenses as well for housing and clothes to get them through the next few months as they “navigate this tough time.”

In his own letter supporting the GoFundMe effort, Niesz said that he has spoken with Latrice and let her know of the Bayonne Board of Education’s desire to support the family.

“The page is definitely for this family and is supported by Bayonne Board of Education administration,” Niesz said, sharing a reminder that counseling is available at William Shemin Midtown Community School and Nicholas Oresko Community School.

“Together, as we mourn the loss of this young life, perhaps you consider sending any size donation to their GoFundMe page.
