    Bayonne BOE Seeking Nominations for Field of Heroes

    BAYONNE, NJ - The Bayonne Board of Education will once again honor the men and women that have served the United States Armed Forces.

    On Friday, November 1, the 9th annual Field of Heroes ceremony will take place in the Alexander X. O’Connor Auditorium of Bayonne High School, Superintendent of Schools John J. Niesz and Board President Jodi Casais have announced. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m.

    As part of the ceremony, the front of Bayonne High School will once again be adorned with American Flags. Each flag will represent a five-dollar donation and each will honor a past or present member of the Armed Forces.

    Those wishing to support this effort, the proceeds of which will be presented to the Joyce-Herbert V.F.W. Post 226 Veterans Museum can do so by completing the attached form , and submitting it, with $5 per flag, to the Joyce-Herbert V.F.W. Post 226, 16 West 9th Street, Bayonne, NJ. 079002. Forms must be submitted by October 11, 2024.

    Nominations for the Field of Heroes Inductees are also being accepted, with the District’s Field of Heroes Selection Committee choosing nominees submitted by the public. These potential awardees should represent honorable service to the country; as well as, to our local community. It is perfectly acceptable to submit both current and former residents of Bayonne.

    Those submitting a nominee should include the name, branch of service, rank, and a small biography detailing their service to the nation and to Bayonne. Nominators are also encouraged to add a statement as to why you believe they deserve special designation in our ceremony.

    These nominations must be received no later than August 15, 2024 and should also be sent to the Bayonne Board of Education, 669 Avenue A, Bayonne, New Jersey 07002, in care of Dr. Dennis Degnan. Nominations will also be accepted via email.
