Baseball: Bayonne Beats Madison, 5-4, to Win Summer Championship

BAYONNE, NJ -- The Bayonne baseball team won its second summer championship in the last three years with a 5-4 victory over Madison on Wednesday.

It was the second High School Developmental League Union Division title since 2022 for the Bees, coached by Dave Hoffmann.

In 2023, Bayonne lost to Ridge in the final, but 2023 was the year that the Bees won the spring season Section 2, Group 4 championship.

Bayonne trailed, 4-3, in the bottom of the sixth inning against Madison on Wednesday when Brandon Drago put the Bees ahead with a two-run double with two out.

Jack Pozo went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, Steven Kass hit an RBI triple, and Jadie Esteves and Ian Geisler each hit doubles.

Ronan Spiers came on in the seventh inning to get the save, striking out two batters. Jordan Young was the winning pitcher. He pitched the top of the sixth and struck out three batters.

Elijah Young pitched three innings, allowed two runs and struck out five batters. Sav Raparelli struck out four batters in his two innings on the mound.
