Milford Memorial Day ceremony back in town

MILFORD – The Milford Memorial Day ceremony was brought back to the city after a hiatus of a few years Monday.

Dee Davis and her husband were excited to attend the ceremony last year at the Milford Senior Center. However, when they got there, it was an empty parking lot with no one in sight.

They reached out to Rep. Bryan Shupe, R-Milford, and were able to bring back the ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in military service to Milford High School.

The emcee of the event was Ed Huey, a retired Milford Police Department captain. He was born and raised in Milford and served the city for 37 years through the police department and Boy Scouts of America.

The keynote speaker at the service was Master Sgt. Mercedes McCoy Garrett of the United States Air Force. She told her story about her 15 years of service, including her five stateside deployments within Mortuary Affairs.

The Milford Community Band performed songs as each branch was recognized.

At the end of the ceremony, Ed Moczulski, a retired United States Air Force veteran, presented the Missing Man Table. He explained the significance of each piece of the table.

As guests exited the event, they were given a poppy flower that represents those lives lost to war since World War I.
