Above and beyond: Here are Beacon's scholar athletes for 2023-24

The Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association recently honored its top senior student-athletes for each high school. Beacon High School selected Rachel Thorne and Henry Reinke.

Here are their profiles:

Rachel Thorne

GPA: 104.22

Class Rank: 5

Varsity Sports: Cross Country; Indoor and Outdoor track and field

Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: National Honor Society; Concert Band (first chair flute and piccolo); Pit orchestra (flute and piccolo); school newspaper (editor-in-chief); Science Club; AP Scholar; Board of Education student representative

Athletic Honors: Four-time all-league; two-time All-Section; three-time MVP; Coach's Award; varsity captain

Community Service: Blood drive volunteer; food pantry volunteer; assists with modified and varsity track and field meet scoring

Future Plans: Northeastern University. to major in Biology and English

Henry Reinke

GPA: 102.53

Class Rank: 13

Varsity Sports: Cross country; indoor and outdoor track and field

Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: Beacon Players theatre group member, formed a local rock band with friends

Athletic Honors: School records in 800 meters, 600, indoor 400, 3,200 relay, 6,400 relay

Community Service: Trevor Zoo volunteer, distributed food to neighborhoods in need during the pandemic with the non-profit organization, Fareground

Future Plans: Williams College, to major in biology or environmental studies, run varsity track
