A South Carolina woman experienced a remarkable stroke of luck when she won the lottery just days after losing her job.

The Lowcountry woman didn't know how she'd get by but her fortune suddenly changed when she visited The Old Pantry store on Ribaut Road in Beaufort and bought a $10 $300,000 Gold Rush scratch-off ticket . She was left stunned after finding out she'd won the $300,000 top prize.

"I'm still in shock and extremely grateful," the lottery winner told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. She added: "I've never won anything before."

The woman, who wasn't named, revealed the prize money has given her the ability to make a fresh start as she plans to use it to buy a new house. “It’s crazy how things worked out,” she remarked.

The store she bought the ticket at also received a commission of $3,000 for selling it. There are still three more top prizes of $300,000 remaining in $300,000 Gold Rush game, which has odds of 1 in 700,000.

The South Carolina woman's win comes as a Massachusetts man got lucky after his dream about buying a specific lottery ticket led to a $1million win. Howard Kendall Jr, from Plymouth, told the Massachusetts State Lottery that the night before his big win he'd dreamt that he'd bought a diamonds ticket.

The next day, Howard went and purchased a “$4,000,000 Diamonds” $10 instant ticket game. Low and behold his dream paid off - literally - and he won a $1million prize.

Howard chose to claim his prize in a one-time payment and walked away with $650,000 before taxes. He revealed he plans to use his newfound fortune to help out his children and grandkids.

The grandad bought his winning ticket at a 7-Eleven store on State Rd. in Plymouth. The store will also receive a $10,000 bonus for selling him the ticket.
