Family of Columbus man killed in Iraq honored in Fourth of July parade
COLUMBUS, Wis. (WMTV) - Twenty years after a Columbus soldier was killed in Iraq, his family was honored as parade marshals in the Fourth of July celebration. John, Retta Kurth and their grandchildren opened the traditional Fourth of July parade in Columbus on Thursday. The two own a family operated brewery in town which includes a photo of their son John “Hans” Kurth, an army commanding officer who was killed in Iraq in 2004.

Central Fire and EMS District to re-evaluate signs
The Central Fire & EMS board decided to move an update to the stations’ signage on to next year’s budget as well as temporarily increase the per diem payment for EMT trips to Marshfield due to the construction on Highway 13, making trips longer, at their most recent meeting on June 20. They also decided to extend chief Joe Mueller’s contract for 90 days while considerations are made on a longer term contract.
