There was no threat of a no-hitter, but this time Jose Cabrera got his win.

Fresh from his near-no-hitter last week versus Spokane, in which his only hit relinquished was with two outs in the ninth, the 22-year-old right-hander threw six solid innings en route to the Hops’ 9-3 win over Vancouver on Friday night, Aug. 30, at Hillsboro Ballpark.

Cabrera allowed three earned runs on just three hits, all of which came on a Jace Bohrofen second-inning three-run home run.

Hillsboro led 4-3 after Bohrofen’s homer, then went on to add a run in the bottom of the second inning, another in the third, and three more in the fifth.

Gino Groover homered for the fourth time in four games and finished the night 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and two runs-scored.

Tommy Troy, Jack Hurley, Jose Fernandez and Kevin Sim all had two hits for the Hops, with the team tallying 12 hits to Vancouver’s four.

Zane Russell, Carlos Rey and Teofilo Mendez were solid in relief of Cabrera, allowing just a single hit while striking out five in three shutout innings.

Canadians starting pitcher Kendry Rojas struggled and took the loss for the visitors, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings of work.

The two teams will meet again at 7:05 p.m. tonight, at Hillsboro Ballpark.
