“Best Of” Fall Sports—Volleyball Top Moment
The 2023 Egyptian Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Championship was an intense battle from start to finish. St. Elmo-Brownstown has been a familiar face in the title game for many years, while Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City came into the tournament as the #5 seed and upset top-seeded Ramsey and #4 seed Patoka-Odin to earn their spot in the Championship. The two teams would battle point for point through set one with SEB taking the close set win 26-24. CHBC came out strong in set two for a big 25-13 win as the match would be tied at a set apiece. Down to the deciding third set, the Eagles and Bobcats again battled point for point with SEB again pulling out the tight 26-24 win to claim the match 2-1 and the EIC Tournament Championship.
Brownstown Man Dies In Single Vehicle Accident
A Brownstown man died Friday morning in a single vehicle accident. Fayette County Coroner Dave Harris reports there was a single vehicle accident on County Road 1625 south of Brownstown early Friday. Harris says a truck driven by David E. Drum of Brownstown left the roadway and hit a tree. Harris reports he pronounced Drum dead at the scene at 4am.

After filing for bankruptcy, a small Arby's franchisee is selling some locations and closing others. Miracle Restaurant Group LLC, a company based out of Louisiana has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
