Middle Tennessee State football is picked to finish fourth in the 2024 Conference USA preseason poll, the league announced Friday. Liberty was picked first, receiving 18 of the 20 first-place votes (197 points). Western Kentucky was picked second, receiving the other two first-place votes (173 points) while Jacksonville State (166) was third, followed by the Blue Raiders (98).

State offering $2 million in grants for historic restoration/rehab projects
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Historical Commission announced a new grant to help cover the cost of restoring National Register-listed historic properties in the state. Overall, $2 million is available from the Historic Property/Land Acquisition Fund (HPLAF) Grant Program this year. Applications are open now through Aug. 31. The grants are competitive and can be used for historic restoration or rehabilitation projects for National Register-listed properties that have a public benefit. ...

The National Weather Service in Nashville reported that while rain chances are high, the risk of severe storms remains low. Rain chances range from 10-50% tonight and increase to 30-80% on Sunday and Monday, with highs in the upper 80s. Tuesday through Friday shows rain chances of 40-80%, with temperatures staying between 77-89 degrees.

Tennessee Tech University set an all-time record for externally funded research for the fourth year in a row, according to university administrators. The university topped $46 million in externally funded research in fiscal year 2024, supported by nearly 200 research activations. The total figure for the fiscal year, which ended June 30, surpasses Tech’s previous record by $10 million and marks the achievement of one of the university’s long-held strategic goals a year ahead of schedule.
