Historic Freedmen’s School in Tennessee’s Cemetery Community
After the Civil War, freedmen formed communities all around the South. Near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, the Cemetery community received its name because of its location next to Stones River National Cemetery. Retired members of the United States Colored Troops chose to live in the area alongside newly freed men and women after the federal government decided to build one of the national cemeteries in this area, which would provide jobs for those who helped create and maintain the cemetery.

Council Gives Nod to Community Development FY25 Annual Action Plan
The Murfreesboro City Council approved the FY25 Annual Action Plan and Subrecipient Awards Thursday, July 18, 2024. The Annual Action Plan represents local priorities and funding allocation totaling approximately $1.3 million to address community development and housing needs. The Plan is presented to the federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to receive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds.
Over 100 Residential Units Planned for Garden District in Clari Park
The new Garden District has been acquired for $7 million by Georgia-based luxury homebuilder, Ashton Woods, according to Nashville Business Journal. Now, Ashton Woods’ Garden District will bring 155 residential units, 134 townhomes and 21 single-family homes, to the Clari Park mixed-use development. Phase One of the Garden District parcel should begin within the coming days.
Resurfacing Work Prompts Weekend Lane Closures on I-840 in Rutherford Co.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be conducting weekend lane and ramp closures on Interstate 840 in Rutherford County. Crews with Jones Bros. Contractors will conduct lane and ramp closures for the next three weekends: July 20 – July 22, July 26 – July 27, and August 3 – August 5. Closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays and last until 5 a.m. on Mondays. One lane will remain open.

In her current role, Professor Campbell teaches courses on advanced legal research and focuses her reference work on faculty and student services. Her academic interests include critical legal research, research instruction, law and science fiction, and southern legal history. Before she came to the UNC Chapel Hill, she served the University of Mississippi as the public services law librarian, an instructor in first-year legal research, and manager of the library’s circulation department.
