BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, Mo. – Gunfire rang out Sunday in the hallway of Grace New Covenant Church in Bellefontaine Neighbors.

Parishioners were in the middle of noon service when they heard the shots. The church is located near Chambers Road and Crete Drive.

Police said no one was injured but shots were exchanged between a suspect and a church security official. Police said it appears the suspect and victim know one another and are possibly related.

The shooter fled the area and is not in custody.

Senior Pastor Earnest Howard tells FOX 2 that he knows the active shooter procedure, so they followed those precautions. His first thought was to get everyone to safety, above anything else. He said the attempted assassination of former President Trump was on his mind.

This is a developing story. More details will be posted as they come into the FOX 2 newsroom.
