Fatal head-on crash leaves one dead, two injured in Bellefontaine Neighbors

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – One person is dead and two others, including a young child, are severely injured after a violent overnight crash in Bellefontaine Neighbors on Friday morning.

Investigators say there was a head-on crash on Route 367 between Interstate 270 and Chambers Road early Friday morning. There was significant damage to both of the vehicles involved in the wreck.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is leading the investigation. Corporal Dallas Thompson, with the patrol, says the call for the crash came in just after 3 a.m. Friday morning.

The crash involved a black Buick Encore and a maroon Chevy Malibu.

The crash report from MSHP says the Malibu was travelling south on 367 when the car crossed the center line and slammed into the Encore, which was traveling north on 367.

Thompson says the driver of the Encore, a 49-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. MSHP says a young passenger, who is 12 years old, accompanied her in the car.

MSHP says the driver of the Malibu is 25 years old.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu and the 12-year-old were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash report from the patrol says the woman who was killed was wearing a seatbelt but the other driver was not.

There is no word on what caused the driver of the Malibu to cross the center line.

There are no barricades or anything in the area that would prevent a vehicle from crossing the center line and continuing into oncoming traffic.
