BELOIT — A downpour in the eighth inning helped the Beloit Sky Carp end an six-game losing streak Tuesday night at ABC Supply Stadium.

They were likely on their way to a victory anyway.

The Sky Carp led the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a 7-3 score and were batting in the bottom of the eighth when play was halted by storms in the area. After about a half-hour delay and a soggy forecast, the umpires called the game and Beloit had evened the series at 1-1.

After watching the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers bang out 16 hits in an 11-1 victory on Monday night, the Sky Carp pitchers were more efficient in game 2.

Emmett Olson (3-3) started for the Sky Carp and picked up the victory. He allowed all of the Timber Rattlers’ nine hits and three runs in 5 1-3 innings of work, striking out five. Reliever Josh White did not allow a hit in his 1 2-3 innings, walking one and striking out four. Nigel Belgrave pitched a scoreless eighth and had two strikeouts to give the Beloit staff 11 for the game.

The Timber Rattlers pushed across a run in the first inning against Olson. They loaded the bases on singles by Gregory Barrios and Jadher Areinamo and Luke Adams was hit by a pitch. Matthew Woods grounded out to third base with a run scoring. Olson got out of the inning with no further damage thanks to a flyout by Eduardo Garcia.

Wisconsin stole a run in the third. Barrios and Areinamo again singled. With Barrios and third, Areinamo stole second and Barrios stole home. It was Areinamo’s 26th steal and the 17th for Barrios.

Beloit went to work in the fourth against starter Tate Kuehner. After walks to Johnny Olmstead and Mark Coley II, Josh Zamora singled on the infield. Shortstop Barrios threw wildly to first, allowing Olmstead to score.

Brock Vradenburg had an RBI single to right to tie the game. Two outs later, Sam Praytor singled to left, scoring both Zamora and Vradenburg for a 4-2 lead. Reliever Yerlin Rodriguez walked the next two batters to load the bases, but Olmstead struck out.

In the fifth, Barrios and Areniamo both singled for the third straight time. They each picked up another stolen base and a groundout by Tayden Hall scored Barrios to make it 4-3.

White came on in relief with one out and a runner on in the sixth inning.

The Sky Carp added three runs in the seventh for a 7-3 lead. Jorge Caballero led off with a double and an out later, Coley was hit by a pitch. Zamora walked to load the bases and after Vradenburg struck out, Tony Bullard singled to left to drive in two. Jake DeLeo’s single to center scored Zamora.

The teams meet again at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday with fireworks to follow the game.
