Suspect in kidnapping and interstate police pursuit identified

The suspect in a kidnapping and interstate police chase has now been identified. 31 year old, Joshua Dornellas was arrested after he allegedly assaulted the mother of his child and kidnapped their 3 year old son from a home in Belton.

As we previously reported, Anderson County Deputies spotted the suspect vehicle along I-85 and once Dornellas crossed the Georgia state line, a chase ensued. The Georgia State Patrol initiated the pursuit and eventually Dornellas crashed his vehicle and it caught on fire with the child inside.

Anderson County Deputies rescued the boy from the burning car. He was airlifted to a hospital where he is still undergoing treatment.

Dornellas has a history of violence, the Sheriff's Office says he assaulted his son's mother just over a week before the incident Wednesday and she had a restraining order filed against him.
