Think Wild: Get cozy in the Beaver Den to discuss all things beavers

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Each month, Think Wild , a Bend nonprofit whose mission is to rescue and rehabilitate injured, orphaned wildlife, hosts a monthly event where they highlight published research on beavers.

Maureen Thompson of Think Wild said Wednesday evening, “It's important to talk about beavers because they are a recently maligned species in recent history."

"A lot of people thought of them as a nuisance because of all of the habitat complexity that they create. Sometimes that means that they are flooding roads or creating problems on private property. But they also do so much good in the process, that it's just really great to shed light on all of those positive things that can support, human health and also a lot of the wildlife in Oregon.”

This intimate group who shares a passion for beavers, were delighted to know there's a space just for them to discuss wildlife.

Attendee Ann Jamison said, “ Beaver Works is a great organization that's up and coming here in the Central Oregon area, and I'd like very much to support them and be working with them.”

Think Wild says you can see beavers in their natural habitat right in our backyard – in downtown Bend and in our streams, creeks and rivers, particularly Shevlin Park.

The best time to beaver-watch is early morning and late evening.

Beavers also leave behind their distinctive mark of where they’ve been by gnawing on trees using their massive teeth.
