'A hole in your soul': Family of Shreveport July 4th mass shooting victims have no answers
It's been one year since Shamika Dorsey and LaShanda Carter's sons were murdered in the mass shooting that consumed a 4th of July block party in Shreveport's MLK neighborhood. After a year of dealing with the weight of grief and the challenges of picking up the pieces for their families, both women and their families are still finding the strength to take things one day at a time.
Victim Named In Shreveport’s 32nd Homicide of 2024
A man shot and mortally wounded in the Eden Gardens neighborhood late Friday, June 28, 2024, has been named by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office. Jacoby Willis, 46, of Dallas, Texas, was talking to another individual at a residence in the 7200 block of Bethany Street when a family member heard several shots. The family member checked on Mr. Willis, who had been shot in the neck and was unresponsive. He was transported to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he succumbed to his wound at 11:59 p.m.
Shreveport Man Arrested for Grimmett Drive Murder
SHREVEPORT, LA- Shreveport Police Make Arrest in Overnight Homicide. Shreveport Police have made an arrest following last night’s homicide in north Shreveport. A Shreveport man who is accused of fatally shooting a 12-year-old boy who he allegedly saw trying to break into his car has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter. A man who shot and killed an acquaintance in the Highland neighborhood was convicted of the slaying and associated charges by a Caddo Parish Jury Thursday, June 27, 2024. The 11-woman, one-man jury in District Judge Michael Pitman's court deliberated just under two hours before returning its verdicts against Torail Thomas, 44, in connection with the November 10, 2022 death of Da’Twaine Broomfield. Thomas was found guilty as charged of second-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice.
