BERNARDSVILLE- Mr. Michael Richter has been selected as the Interim Assistant Principal of Bernardsville Middle School for the 2024-2025 school year.
Joining the Clifton Public School District in 2012, Richter has been a dedicated educator, as well as an enthusiastic team leader and administrative intern. Throughout his years teaching Language Arts at the middle school level, he fostered academic excellence and used data to drive decisions rooted in student growth. He worked closely with students and families to strengthen the educational experience. Richter was an active member of the school community and community at large, supporting young scholars in their many scholastic and extracurricular endeavors.
In his leadership roles, he trained staff members on processes and procedures, ran professional development opportunities in areas related to intervention and special education, as well as created and facilitated successful parent-student collaboration events. As student discipline was another of his primary responsibilities, Richter utilized an innovative approach to problem-solving, balancing empathy with accountability. His positivity, fairness, and respect enhanced the school climate and resulted in an environment where children felt safe and valued.
As Interim Assistant Principal, Richter looks forward to building a rapport with students, helping parents in accessing their child(ren)'s education, and empowering teachers through partnerships between staff and administration. “I am excited to join this great district and help support the growth of the students,” said Richter. “The positive school climate present throughout the community fosters true collaboration between the students, staff, and parents.”
“Bernardsville Middle School is an amazing community, and Mr. Richter is a welcome addition. I am looking forward to working with him this school year,” said Lisa Garofalo, BMS Principal. “We sought a candidate with a deep and broad understanding of the middle school child and are pleased to welcome Mr. Richter to our District,” added Dr. Brian Brotschul, Superintendent of Schools.
From William Paterson University, Richter earned his B.A. in English Literature/Secondary Education, his Master’s in Special Education, and his Educational Leadership Certificate.
Richter will begin his position on August 1, 2024, replacing Mr. Keith Koellhoffer who is currently serving as the Acting Principal of Bedwell Elementary School.
