BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some Berwick residents got some extra help cleaning up thanks to the generosity of the Berwick Area High School football team.

The Berwick Bulldogs banded together to help their community in need.

“This is kinda what I came home to,” said Shemonies.

The storm wreaked havoc on Donna Shemonis’ backyard in Berwick.

But Thursday morning, the Berwick Bulldogs football team came to the rescue.

“We had a great practice this morning, and then we just got right in the car, split up into like eight groups of five, and we’re just hitting a bunch of different locations for people,” explained C.J. Curry the head football coach at Berwick Area High School.

The team worked together to cut down fallen trees and remove debris.

“Oh, this is fantastic because there’s no way, this job is way too big for me to be able to clean up,” said Shemonies.

The bulldogs also lent a hand at the Berwick Golf Club which was hit hard by the storm.

“There’s over 100 trees covering tees, greens, just trees down everywhere. It’s by far the worst we’ve ever seen,” stated Tom Cicini the president of the Berwick Golf Club.

Community outreach is an important part of the Berwick Area High School football program.

“It’s all about love. Everybody gets to love on the team, it’s always about giving back, they come to watch us, you gotta help them out,” added Ashton Smith the quarterback on the Berwick Area football team.

“Our guys just have so much pride in their community, which is a beautiful thing. They just want to come together for everybody to see that when something bad happens, we’re there for them,” says Curry.

Residents in the community are extra thankful for the help, as many of them will be cleaning up for quite a while.
