Police: Man arrested in connection to murder in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Prince George’s County Police Department said it has identified and charged a suspect connected with the murder of a man in Berwyn Heights in May.

Police said that on May 12 at about 10:30 p.m., Berwyn Heights Police Department officers were called to the 8600 block of Cunningham Drive.

Officers said a man was found inside of a home unresponsive.

He died at the scene. The death was ruled a homicide.

Police identified the man who died as 54-year-old Sandeep Gupta of Berwyn Heights and the suspect as 24-year-old Joiker Avila-Avila of Hyattsville.

Officers said the suspect and the victim knew each other. The motive is still under investigation.

Avila-Avila is being charged with first-degree murder and other related charges.
