ABILENE, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – A cadet died in the line of duty during training for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Abilene.

TDCJ officials confirm Cadet Michelle Strube, 46, died in the line of duty during pre-service training at the Robertson Unit Training Center in Abilene.

A press release explains that all cadets participate in this training for 6 weeks before becoming a Correctional Officer.

“Cadet Strube committed to protecting and serving the state of Texas. There is no higher calling than that,” Texas Board of Criminal Justice Chairman Eric Nichols said.  “Our prayers are with her family, friends and academy cohort during this difficult time.”
