ACU Football HC Keith Patterson, 3 others injured in bus crash, team looks ahead to West Georgia

ABILENE, Texas (BCH Sports) – It’s been a rollercoaster of a weekend, from high school thrillers, to unfathomable near upsets, but we were also reminded how fragile this thing we call life can be.

Just minutes after Abilene Christian Head Coach Keith Patterson stepped away from his postgame presser on Saturday, the team’s bus was struck by a vehicle, causing a major accident.

Patterson was one of four people to sustain injuries in what was a frightening situation in Lubbock.

Two days later, the head coach addressed the media with this message.

Patterson said, “I feel like I tried to tackle Tahj Brooks, without any pads on. Moving a little slow obviously. You’re thankful, you see that life can be taken from you in a minute and football is just something that we get to do to get our education paid for and to be able to provide entertainment, which it was a very entertaining game, I enjoyed watching it. I tell our players all the time there’s no adversity in football, there’s changes in momentum. What happened after the game, that’s adversity and, fortunately, it could have been a lot worse”

Coach Patterson is a true football guy and we’re incredibly thankful that he and everyone affected appears to be ok.

While the team was shaken by what occurred on Saturday, they haven’t forgotten their performance in what some are calling the greatest ACU game of all time.

They’ll look to light up the scoreboard again when they face West Georgia in their home opener this Saturday night.
