SORRENTO, La. (BRPROUD) — The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Mississippi man after a traffic stop on Monday, June 17.

The stop took place around 12:30 p.m. on I-10 East near Sorrento and ended with Binh Truong, 52, of Biloxi being charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Unit initiated the stop. According to deputies, the reason for the traffic stop was traffic violations.

The Biloxi man consented to a search of his vehicle, APSO said.

“Deputies located two kilograms of cocaine with a street value estimated at approximately $44,000,” according to the sheriff’s office.

APSO said the K-9 was not used during the search for drugs.
