Update: Avelo tells News 34 that the airline will permanently no longer service flights to Orlando from Greater Binghamton Airport.

“Our exit from Binghamton is permanent. Unfortunately, the BGM-MCO route was not profitable, and we do not expect it to be within a reasonable time horizon,” Avelo Head of Brand and Communications, Jim Olson said.

Avelo says it took a hard look at the data when analyzing commitment to a new or current route. The data that Avelo saw in the Orlando route was not convincing enough to continue business.

“We are grateful for the support Avelo has received from the Binghamton community and the Greater Binghamton Airport leadership team,” Olson added.

The commissioner of aviation at the airport, Mark Heefner says the flights were always filled and received great feedback.

“They’re a young airline, Avelo is a young airline. We’re not closing the door whatsoever on them continuing to fly, because we did talk about them coming back for the Spring and offering service, because it did really good. We had a lot of people that really liked the service. So, it definitely affects our area and affects our airport. It’s just difficult,” said Heefner

Heefner says Binghamton isn’t the only airport that Avelo has pulled out of recently.

The only remaining flight out of Binghamton will be Delta Airlines connecting flights to Detroit.

Heefner says the county is still working hard to bring in more flights and more air carriers.

(WIVT/WBGH) – The discount airline Avelo is once again suspending its non-stop service from Binghamton to Orlando.

Avelo is not taking reservations for its twice-a-week flights to and from Orlando after Sunday, August 18.

Avelo had taken what it called a seasonal pause during the month of May. When it resumed flying on June 6, it switched its flight days to Sundays and Thursdays.

Avelo began non-stop flights to Florida amid great fanfare back in November 2022.

No word yet from Avelo as to whether this marks a permanent end to service for Binghamton or another seasonal pause.
