    BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Here are the top stories that dominated the news during the past week, curated by the KX News digital staff:

    1: Bismarck man killed in Ward County crash . According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling southbound on US Highway 83, and began to slow in the driving lane to check on a vehicle stopped on the west shoulder. A Jeep traveling in the same lane then rear-ended the vehicle.

    2: John Deere laying off hundreds of Midwest workers . John Deere plans to lay off hundreds of employees across three Midwest factories by the end of next month. Around 600 production workers at factories in East Moline, Illinois, and Davenport and Dubuque, Iowa, will be laid off effective Aug. 30, according to Nexstar’s WHBF. The layoffs are due to reduced demand for products from those factories, the company said.

    3: Body found by Minot police believed to be missing person; murder suspected . Police executed a search warrant in a missing person investigation at about 10:30 a.m., July 2, in southeast Minot. While executing the search warrant, a body was discovered in the basement of the building being searched. Investigators believe the body is that of the missing 36-year-old Minot man, who has been gone since the beginning of April.

    4: Bismarck man arrested for stomping on another man’s head . Police arrested a man after they say he attacked another man and knocked him unconscious over the weekend. It happened in Bismarck when police were called to a home along Burleigh Avenue. There, witnesses told them they saw a man stomp on another man’s head.

    5: Dickinson shooting leaves one dead, one arrested . According to the Dickinson Police Department, officers were called to the 1000 block of Enterprise Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 59-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound and the suspected shooter, a 67-year-old man, stayed on the scene and spoke with officers. The 67-year-old was arrested and has been charged with murder.
