    Area Track and Field: Blaine, Spring Lake Park win section titles as deep area group advances to state meet

    Blaine boys and girls track and field swept the team titles during the Section 7AAA Championships in Forest Lake May 29-31, headlining a deep group of area state qualifiers onto the upcoming state meet June 6-8 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

    Section champions for the Blaine boys were River Santiago in the 1,600-meter (4:25.01), the 4x100 relay team (Jamareon Douglas, Samuel Shaughnessy, Michael Olomiyete and Michael Douglas) in 43.00, and the 4x800 relay team (Nathan Taylor, Connor Bialka, Jack Zellmer and Evan Koerber) in 7:54.55. Runners-up were Haevian Cole in the 400 (50.10), Santiago in the 3,200 (9:18.81), the 4x200 relay team (Michael Douglas, Shaughnessy, Olomiyete and Jamareon Douglas) in 1:28.37, Shiloh Ayitey in the high jump (6-2), and Garald Ferguson Jr. in the triple jump (43-5). Advancing by reaching the state standard was Olomiyete in third in the 100 (11.10).

    Section champions for the Blaine girls included Hannah Claussen in the 200 (25.10), Katelyn Wozniak in the 400 (57.60), the 4x100 relay team (Aliyah Adepoju, Jordan Blair, Tayalekay Borh and Grace Kowhegba) in 49.53, the 4x200 relay team (Wozniak, Claussen, Kowhegba and Hope Dweh) in 1:41.66, the 4x400 relay team (Wozniak, Addison Stadden, Claussen and Dweh) in 3:57.62, Blair in the long jump (18-0.5), and Yvonne Marsh in the triple jump (35-8.5). Advancing as runners-up were Adepoju in the 100 (12.69), Dweh in the 200 (26.03), and Blair in the triple jump (34-8.75). Marsh hit the state standard to advance in third in the long jump (17-7.25).

    The Anoka boys finished as the team runner-up. Section champions were Isaiah Salami in the high jump (6-2) and in the triple jump (44-2.75), Aaron Peterson in the 800 (1:56.30), and Afanna Ibekwe in the 110 hurdles (14.50). The 4x400 relay team (Thomas Radtke, Wyatt Rothrum, Dustin Larson and Peterson) finished as the runner-up in 3:25.94. Advancing via state standard marks were Ibekwe in third in the 300 hurdles (39.72), the third-place 4x800 relay team (Larson, Rothrum, Radtke and Peterson) in 7:57.06, and Blake Sieben in fifth in the pole vault (12-11).

    For the Anoka girls, Lydia Lakanen advanced as the runner-up in both the discus (117-1) and the shot put (37-7), and Macie Beall advanced as the runner-up in the pole vault (10-11). Hayden Reeder advanced in third in the high jump with a qualifying mark of 5-2.

    The Coon Rapids boys finished in third place. Section champions included KhiJohnn Cummings-Coleman in the 100 (10.77) and the 200 (22.38), Jerry Freeman in the 400 (49.22), the 4x200 relay team (Freeman, Joseph Hauge, Lance Hill and Cummings-Coleman) in 1:28.09, and the 4x400 relay team (Carnell Robinson, Mekhai Martin, Tyler Vossen and Freeman) in 3:24.86. Sam Dennis was the runner-up in both the shot put (56-9.5) and the discus (159-8).

    For the Coon Rapids girls, Nyebol Jock advanced as the runner-up in both the 100 hurdles (15.40) and the 300 hurdles (46.06).

    For the Andover boys, section champions included Shae Wyszynski in the 300 hurdles (38.95) and in the long jump (22-0.5), and Aidan Gomes in the 3,200 (9:18.51). Runners-up were the 4x800 relay team (Nolan Potvien, Tyler Flippen, Jack Jendro and Gomes) in 7:55.62, and Jackson Froslee in the pole vault (14-2).

    For the Andover girls, Avah Shaw advanced as the champion in the high jump (5-4) and in fourth in the long jump (17-6.25), and Payton McKnight was the champion in the 100 hurdles (15.10).

    Section 5AAA

    The Spring Lake Park girls won the Section 5AAA team championship at Forest Lake May 29-31.

    Advancing to state as section champions for the Panthers were Brianna Finnegan in the 100 (12.24) and Arabella Sutch in the discus (129-7). Advancing as runners-up were Finnegan in the 200 (25.37), Ellyana Prairie in the 100 hurdles (15.66), Sutch in the shot put (40-2.5), and Tiffanie Huynh in the pole vault (10-5). Advancing by hitting the state standard were the 4x100 relay team (Malaya James, Finnegan, Nevaeh Coffer and Prairie) in third (48.96), Genevieve Dabout in third in the shot put (38-11), and Coffer in fourth in the long jump (17-4.25).

    Advancing to state as runners-up for the SLP boys were Jamal Smith in the 100 (10.91), Luke Fehrenbacher in the 800 (1:56.37), Brady Paulson in the 300 hurdles (39.66), Sebastian Santiago in the pole vault (13-11), and Rich Adeniyi-Akins in the long jump (22-9).

    Section 7AA

    The Totino-Grace boys finished as the runner-up and the Fridley boys earned third during the Section 7AA Championships in Cloquet May 29-31.

    The Fridley boys had nine state-qualifying performances. Section champions included Fadel Johnson in the long jump (21-10.25) and in the triple jump (46-11), and Lorenzo Hampton III in the 300 hurdles (38.89). Advancing as runners-up were Hampton III in the 110 hurdles (15.08), the 4x100 relay (Cártez Cook Jr., Tykeilan Hy Shaw-Moore, Lex Korti and Hampton III) in 43.44, Hy Shaw-Moore in the long jump (21-3.5) and Isaiah Watson in the triple jump (46-1.25). Advancing via reaching the state standard in third place were Hy Shaw-Moore in the high jump (6-1) and Watson in the long jump (21-2.75).

    The T-G boys had six state-qualifying performances. Section champions for the Eagles were Justin Kuharski in both the 100 (11.19) and the 200 (22.47), Owen Lamb in the 400 (50.66), Matthew Lindgren in the 1,600 (4:22.40), and Josiah Young in the high jump (6-3). The 4x400 relay team (Lamb, Lindgren, Zachary Bartsch and Kuharski) finished second in 3:29.78.

    Section 5AA

    The St. Francis boys had seven state-qualifying field performances during the Section 5AA Championships in Monticello May 28-30.

    Samuel Ruid swept the section titles in the throws, winning in the shot put (48-1.75) and in the discus (162-1). Advancing as runners-up were Evan Peterson in the discus (145-8) and Wyatt Lind in the high jump (6-2). Advancing via qualifying standards were Jacob Tilly in third in the long jump (21-3.5), Lind in fourth in the triple jump (43-1.5), and Charles Narcum in sixth in the triple jump (42-11).

    St. Francis’ Anniston Rolf advanced as the runner-up in the girls 1,600 in 5:29.9.

    Section 4A

    The Legacy Christian Academy girls had a trio of individuals and relays advance at the Section 4A Championships in Arden Hills May 30-June 1.

    The 4x400 relay team (Favour Adetunji, Kylee Loren, Grace Thompson and Addisyn Kimmel) won the section title in 4:07.42. Runners-up were Cambell Remus in the pole vault (9-9), Loren in the 300 hurdles (45.91), the 4x200 relay team (Adetunji, Thompson, Kimmel and Loren) in 1:45.26, and the 4x800 relay team (Paige Heppner, Anna Stromberg, Xandra Jackson and Isabella Lindquist) in 9:58.49. Kimmel advanced via the time standard in fourth in the 400 (59.97).

    For the LCA boys, Joren Rudzitis was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles (41.41), and Dominic Zoa was the runner-up in the 400 (50.08).

    Section 4AA

    The Columbia Heights girls had a pair of state qualifiers during the Section 4AA Championships held at St. Anthony May 29-31, as Il M’aime Ntambwe won the triple jump (35-8.5), and Danchau Le was the runner-up in the long jump (17-4).
