The Register's sister afternoon paper, the Des Moines Tribune, reports on his Sept. 22, 1959, arrival at the Des Moines airport to visit his friend, seed entrepreneur Roswell Garst, in Coon Rapids. The excursion follows a Pulitzer-winning 1956 editorial by the Register's Lauren K. Soth inviting a Soviet delegation to come to Iowa to study its agriculture.
