The downtown Shreveport building used by the City of Shreveport's Department of Community Development could soon be available for purchase. The former Pioneer Bank building at 401 Texas St. was built in 1977 as part of the "Pioneer Corner" banking complex. In 1994 when Pioneer closed, the building was sold to Hibernia National Bank and soon after, it was sold again. The City of Shreveport purchased the vacant building in 2003, and leased it to the Multicultural Center of the South in 2004 until roughly 2011 when Community Development moved in.

A Shreveport man who is accused of fatally shooting a 12-year-old boy who he allegedly saw trying to break into his car has been indicted on a charge of manslaughter. According to the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office Kelvin Boles fatally shot Jaylen Coleman in the head after he reportedly saw Coleman and several other youths were trying to break into his car outside his home in the 8900 block of Hawthorne Drive on May 11.
