BLOOMFIELD, NJ--The 13th Bloomfield High School Alumni Football Camp was held on June 22, at Foley Field, with a large turnout of young campers on hand.

Once again, former Bengal and later, Virginia Tech football standout Anthony Lambo oversaw the event. Lambo, a 1996 graduate of Bloomfield High, and 2000 alum of Va. Tech, was pleased with the turnout of campers, and the enthusiasm which went with it.

"2024 was our camp's 13th year," said Lambo. "We had 55 boys and girls, grades 1-9, and they all attend for free. Each camper received a camp tee-shirt, bagel breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. The camp had 20 BHS alumni football players, all of which played under head coach (Mike) Carter."

Carter, of course, also coached Lambo in high school. Lambo's collegiate career included an appearance in the 2000 NCAA National Championship game, or Bowl Championship series, which was hosted by the Sugar Bowl, when Virginia Tech played Florida State in a battle of unbeatens, on Jan. 4, 2000, in New Orleans. Lambo started that game, as he did in the 1998 and 1999 seasons, on the offensive line, for the Hokies.

And while he played college football on the highest levels, Lambo never forgot his Bloomfield roots, which is why the Bloomfield High School Alumni Football Camp means so much to him.

"The camp consisted of agility stations, offensive and defensive Indy's, relay race and tug-of-war competition." said Lambo. "There were six campers of the day, and six additional stand-out campers."

Lambo was not only a tremendous football player for the Bengals, but also stood out on the basketball court and baseball diamond at BHS. He was inducted into the Bloomfield High Hall of Fame, in 2015.

Lambo and his wife, Desiree McGhie-Lambo, have three daughters.

Anthony noted the camp's tremendous sponsors, including Bloomfield's Best Bagels, which supplied breakfast and lunch, as well as the Bloomfield PBA, Fire and Police FCU, TAPinto Bloomfield, KEVA Homes, MVJ Enterprises, LLC, Norton Travel Network, Chalet Coffee Shop and Print Precise Ink.
