BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) – The Bluefield Ridge Runners held a series of special baseball games for Independence Day weekend.

Because they were not originally supposed to play at home on Independence Day, the Ridge Runners already had their fireworks show on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

After a turn of events, the Ridge Runners will be home at Bowen Field for the next several games, and they are not missing a beat.

For their game on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 6:30 P.M. against the Bristol Stateliners, it was Retro Chevy Night. They were offering baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet, sponsored by Cole Chevrolet.

The first 300 patrons got in free and received a free hot dog and an apple pie. There was also a hot dog eating contest with several local celebrities.

Their Friday night game will also hold a special incentive featuring a certain West Virginia University football defensive standout. Ridge Runners General Manager, Rocky Malamisura said, “Sean Martin will be here signing autographs on replica footballs that will be sold for ten dollars a piece. That money will return to the Lil Tony foundation for his best friend Tony…Tony Webster.”

That game will also begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024.
