Illinois lawmakers push for affordable prescriptions
Two Illinois state lawmakers from the area are pushing legislation to make medicine more affordable. The bill, HB3493, would establish a prescription drug affordability board. Rep. Gregg Johnson and Sen. Mike Halpin went over the bill during a town hall meeting at the UAW Hall in East Moline. The board would work with the pharmaceutical companies to set maximum prices for drugs. Supporters say people are often forced to choose between the drugs and other basic necessities like food. The bill passed the Illinois house in April and is now in the hands of an Illinois Senate Committee.
