LIMA, OH (WLIO) - People from all over the region are looking forward to Lima's Star Spangled Spectacular, especially the fireworks show. Crews from Rozzi began setting up Thursday night's show on Wednesday. A little more than 900 shells are packed into the mortars and secured for the 20-minute synchronized show with the Lima Area Concert Band. They will be shot from just south of Safety City to explode over Faurot Park in a dazzling show. Some shells have been imported from several foreign countries to give more variety.

Lima Utilities Department assures residents that water is safe to drink
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A letter received by Lima water customers has many consumers concerned. The Lima Utilities Department assures residents that the water is safe to consume. The Environmental Protection Agency requires water departments to report if any levels are higher than the EPA standards found in normal testing of the water. The water department found that there was a slight increase in one specific chemical that can form during the water treatment process.

The Fourth of July, in the tongue-in-cheek estimation of Lima newspaperman Albert C. Truitt, just wasn’t what it once was. “It wasn’t many years ago,” Truitt declared in a front-page article in the Lima News on July 4, 1924, “when there wasn’t a thing in the world to keep the Eagle from screaming, so to speak, and no Independence Day was started right unless all the old Civil War cannons in the county were loaded to the muzzle and fired at sunrise. … From then on until dark, firecrackers, torpedoes, bombs, firearms, pistols and even dynamite was fired off to celebrate.”
