    Bassitt qualfies for Olympics in 400-meter hurdles

    EUGENE, Ore. — Bluffton’s Trevor Bassitt qualified for the men’s 400-meter hurdles at the 2o24 Paris Olympic Games when he finished third in that event Sunday at the United States track and field Olympic Trials at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

    Bassitt, who ran college track at Ashland University, ran the 400 hurdles in 47.82 seconds. Rai Benjamin won the race in 46.46 seconds and C.J. Allen was second in 47.81 seconds.

    Texas Tech’s Caleb Dean, the NCAA champion in the 400-meter hurdles, tripped over a hurdle, took a hard fall and did not finish the race Sunday.
