Lee County Operations Changing for the Fourth

As Independence Day approaches, Lee County has announced its operational adjustments for the holiday, aiming to ensure that the celebrations come with minimal disruptions to public services.

On Thursday, July 4, Lee County’s administrative operations will pause for Independence Day, a significant day marked by nationwide celebrations of freedom and patriotism. Adjustments to usual schedules have been planned to accommodate the holiday.

For residents in unincorporated Lee County, Bonita Springs, Estero, and Fort Myers Beach, garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection scheduled after July 4 will be delayed by a day due to the holiday closure. Solid Waste facilities and offices will also be closed on July 4.

Lee County Utilities, a critical component of the county’s operational infrastructure, will also temporarily halt its office and customer service activities on Independence Day. However, the provision for a drop-box at the office and another via the drive-thru ensures that payments can still be made, reflecting the county’s effort to maintain a balance between observance and operational continuity.

The tapestry of Lee County’s community services, including its libraries and Domestic Animal Services, will witness a similar pause in their operations on July 4, resuming normal services the following day. This brief interlude allows the county’s employees to partake in the national festivities, ensuring that the spirit of the holiday is universally shared.

Transportation services through LeeTran will also take a one-day hiatus from their regular schedules, signaling the county’s commitment to observing the day with the gravity it deserves. However, the county’s parks, beaches, pools, and preserves will stay open, inviting residents and visitors alike to bask in the natural beauty of Lee County as they celebrate Independence Day, albeit with a reminder that alcohol is not permitted in county parks.

In an advisory note, the Lee County Department of Transportation cautioned motorists about the closure of the Cape Coral Bridge for the Red, White & Boom celebration, highlighting alternative routes to minimize congestion and ensure public safety. ¦
