A new book by an Ames native is part love story, part cookbook and part local history. “Tony's Little Italy: A Love Story and Recipe Book” is an ode to the popular Ames eatery from the 1960s and ‘70s, written by PJ “Jeff” Gaetano, whose family owned the business.

If you’ve ever had a hankering to taste Iowa-fried cicadas, you’ll have your chance later this summer. Ginny Mitchell, education program coordinator at the Iowa State University Insect Zoo, says one popular element of their annual “Insect Village” event next month is edible insects. Mitchell recently collected hundreds of the 13- and 17-year cicadas which she plans to air-fry, sprinkle with seasoning, and serve to visitors on the Ames campus.

The Perry Public Library is emulating a fun television show for a teen program tomorrow. The library announces that they will be holding a Teen Amazing Race Challenge happening tomorrow from 3-4pm. Public Services Librarian Kayla Rothmeyer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the inspiration derives from the popular tv show.
Perry Parks & Rec Hiring Lifeguards for the Summer
The Perry Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteers to help with the pool this summer. The organization is asking for employees to be part time lifeguards. The Perry Parks & Rec outlines that participants must be at least 15 years old by July 31st, and have to pass a swim test. The test consists of 300 meters of either freestyle or breaststroke, being able to tread water for two minutes, and a brick retrieval.
