Big Red In Attendance for Perry’s 4th of July Celebration
The Perry Chamber of Commerce is holding its annual 4th of July town celebration today. Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti notes that the day will be full of different activities for families to enjoy. The 4th of July Parade is kicking the festivities off at 10am, starting at East Perry Plaza, then going two miles along Willis Avenue before turning on West 3rd Street towards Pattee Park.

Reminder: Fireworks Ordinances in the City of Perry
A representative from the Perry Police Department reiterates the rules pertaining to fireworks in the City of Perry. Perry Police Assistant Chief Jim Archer displays that the selling of fireworks in the state is acceptable, but cities are capable of regulating the use of fireworks. He says that residents can purchase fireworks within the city limits of Perry, but must go to rural areas or somewhere in the country in order to shoot them off. Archer cautions to have adult supervision.

Perry Library Inviting Teens for Amazing Race Tomorrow
The Perry Public Library is emulating a fun television show for a teen program tomorrow. The library announces that they will be holding a Teen Amazing Race Challenge happening tomorrow from 3-4pm. Public Services Librarian Kayla Rothmeyer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the inspiration derives from the popular tv show.
Reminder: 4th of July Closures in Dallas County
A reminder that there will be many closures in the cities of Perry and Adel in observance of the 4th of July holiday tomorrow. The City of Perry claims that the Perry City offices, the Perry Public Library, the McCreary Community Building, and the Water Works Office will be closed tomorrow. The McCreary Building is still open for members ages 18 and older to use the 24-Hour Fitness Room. Perry City Hall will have offices closed on Friday as well. According to the City of Perry, garbage will still run as normal.
Parade kicks off Independence Day celebrations in Perry
A large and enthusiastic crowd lined Willis Avenue in Perry Thursday morning for the July Fourth Independence Day parade, kicking off a day of patriotic celebrations. Entries of all kinds — from flatbed trailers to tractors, walking groups, political candidates and parties, civic organizations and local businesses — lined up at the East Perry Plaza and began their progress at 10 a.m. westward down Willis Avenue before turning southward on W. Fifth Street and skirting the edge of Pattee Park.
DMACC Director on Organization’s Mission to Assist Perry Residents
Des Moines Area Community College Director Eddie Diaz provides the resources available to residents in Perry. Diaz explains that the mission of DMACC is partnering with the community and helping in the areas that they can. The organization is collaborating with Iowa Workforce Development to transition the services they were offering at the Tyson Foods Pork Plant in Perry, and will continue to deliver them at the DMACC VanKirk Academy. Diaz tells Raccoon Valley Radio how people have been utilizing DMACC’s Resource Center.
PR Marketing Director Discusses Recent Grants DCH Has Accumulated
A representative from the Dallas County Hospital thanks a couple of organizations for contributing grants. Public Relations Marketing Director Tom Harmsen says that two Bock Foundation grants were recently received in order to purchase new orthoscopic machines in the Perry and Dallas Center locations, plus a grant helping to replenish the hospital’s blessing box. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the blessing box is open for residents to donate.
Plan for state experts to advise other facilities on care for Iowans with disabilities
(story provided by Radio Iowa) An administrator from the now-closed Glenwood Resource Center is transferring to a role at the state-run facility in Woodward that cares for Iowans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Two federal investigations raised concerns about how residents with serious disabilities at Glenwood were being cared for and the home was closed last month. Iowa Department of Health and Human Services director Kelly Garcia says the person she hired to stabilize medical care at Glenwood is transferring to the Woodward Resource Center.
