A new Korean restaurant with an emphasis on tofu will soon open in Allston . Currently under construction, TofuStory is taking over the former Kao BBQ space at 85 Harvard Ave .

Owner Jin Chong told What Now Boston that the star attraction will be the fresh tofu made on-site daily at TofuStory. The menu will also feature a variety of other “fun” Korean dishes, including short ribs, spicy pork, and potentially marinated or spicy crab.

A highlight of the eatery will be its “special machine from Korea,” which Chong described as a “stone hot pot” and likened to a rice cooker. This device will cook various exotic ingredients, as well as oysters, seafood, and vegetables.

“You can put a lot of exotic items on top, and we cook it together,” Chong said. “It cooks within five minutes. The taste is incredible. After you eat the rice in the pot, you can add hot water to make it into a soup, or let it sit to form crispy rice pieces.”

Chong also mentioned that patrons will receive a complimentary side dish upon arrival and for a limited time, they will be served free samples of fresh tofu when seated.

The name TofuStory was inspired by the nearby franchise Gopchang Story BBQ. “We wanted to make a little bit of a similar vibe, so we kind of just took that and, you know, just ran with TofuStory,” Chong said.

TofuStory is slated to open in July or August of 2024. For sneak peeks and exciting updates, follow the eatery on Facebook.
