Marcus Smart, the Celtics' No. 6 overall pick from the 2014 NBA Draft, played his entire career in Boston -- until this past season.

Smart, sent to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team trade last June, watched as his former team went on to win the NBA Championship.

Smart, the heartbeat of the Celtics franchise for nine years, had to sit back and watch as Boston clinched a historic 18th NBA title against the Dallas Mavericks.

During an appearance on "Run Your Race" Smart broke his silence on what that experience was like for him.

"I know everyone is expecting me to be salty. There's no hard feelings for them," Smart said. "It's definitely a bittersweet feeling. It's definitely tough because I was in those trenches with them.

"To be able not to finish what you started with those guys is definitely tough," the 30-year-old veteran continued. "My wife will tell you, I was screaming for those guys when they won just as much as anyone else because, like I said, I have love for those guys and I know the work that they put in."

Smart also sent both Jaylen Brown, the Finals MVP and Jayson Tatum their flowers.

"I’m just so proud of them. I'm proud to be able to be in the trenches with them, to know those guys, to be able to go to work with them every day that I had that chance to do."
