Watching the confetti fall on the NBA champion Boston Celtics was a bittersweet feeling for Marcus Smart.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard admitted it was tough not finishing what he started when Boston selected him with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

It was even harder seeing Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, two players Smart spent years grinding with on and off the court, reach the mountaintop without him. That's a natural reaction from a player who poured everything he had into Boston before he was traded to Memphis.

But despite his feelings, Smart never stopped cheering for his former teammates.

"There's no hard feelings for them. It's definitely tough because I was in them trenches with them," Smart said, when appearing on Tidal League's "Run Your Race" podcast .

He added: "Not to finish what you started with those guys is definitely tough, but man, [expletive], my wife would tell you I was screaming for those guys when they won it just as much as anybody else."

Smart was moved last June in a three-team trade that helped the Celtics acquire Kristaps Porzingis, a key piece to their championship roster.

Boston went to four conference finals and one NBA Finals with Smart, and they couldn't get over the hump. That finally changed with the additions of Porzingis and Jrue Holiday.

Smart's Grizzlies finished with a 27-55 record and missed the playoffs, but they were facing an uphill battle with Ja Morant suspended for the first 25 games. With Morant now back in the fold, Smart can look forward to chasing the same dream his former teammates achieved without him.
