Kristaps Porzingis Breaks Silence With Major Update After Injury

Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis is in good spirits following the news that he'll be out five-to-six months recovering from surgery.

The team announced on social media that Porzingis underwent a successful surgery to repair a "torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon." It's a rare injury expected to keep him out well into next season.

He suffered the injury in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. It kept him sidelined for the next two games in the series, but he did return for Game 5 to help the Celtics win their 18th NBA championship.

He played 16 minutes and scored five points in the playoff finale.

"Thanks for the support! Everything went smooth. Now will take time to heal up and get ready to go again," Porzingis posted on X.

Porzingis was a major addition to the Celtics' roster last season, and it ended up being a stroke of genius that executive Brad Stevens was able to land him in a three-team trade that sent Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies over a year ago.

In 57 games with the Celtics, Porzingis averaged 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and two assists. His impact as a scorer and rim defender will be missed by Boston.

Yet, they'll have more than enough firepower to get through the early part of the season with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown spearheading their efforts. The team could be even scarier when a healthier Porzingis returns to the lineup for the most important stretch of the season.
