Red Sox legend comes out to keep Tanner Houck warm between innings

Boston Red Sox legend and coach Jason Varitek came out and threw with starting pitcher Tanner Houck to keep him loose between innings.

This is pretty nostalgic, considering Varitek is one of the best Red sox catchers of all time. Varitek was a lifetime Sox player, from 1997 to 2011, and won two World Series titles with Boston.

Currently, the Sox hired him back as a coach, where he serves as the game plan coordinator. This is a uniformed coach position, where Varitek uses his superb analytical ability he acquired as a catcher to help Sox pitchers and catchers prepare before games.

Varitek will consume an insane amount of baseball data, like batter’s tendencies, stats, and overall game film to help pitchers and catchers figure out ways to attack batters and make for easy outs. His skillset is very valued within the Sox pitching staff.

The final game in the series is tomorrow at 2:35pm EST.
