The Colorado Buffaloes are seeking further improvement in Year 2 under Deion Sanders. Year 1 began well with three consecutive wins, but the Buffaloes lost eight of its final nine games.

The 4-8 record represented a three-game improvement over the 1-11 record from the 2022 season. With Colorado joining the Big 12, the Buffaloes aim for further improvement, and some believe Colorado can contend for the playoff.

On a recent episode of The Paul Finebaum Show , the SEC Network analyst declared that he is not one of those people. When asked about star quarterback Shedeur Sanders' Heisman Trophy chances, Finebaum called Colorado "terrible" and said that it was something that Shedeur would not be able to overcome.

"I think it's about momentum," Finebaum said. "You start off with big numbers. I mean, Shedeur Sanders, could he get around the fact that his father's team is going to be terrible? I don't think so, no."

According to ESPN's Football Power Index , Colorado is ranked as the No. 10 team in the Big 12. The projected win total for the Buffaloes is 6.3, and Colorado has a 4.1% chance of winning the conference.

The Buffaloes don't benefit from its schedule. 247Sports ranked Colorado as having the second toughest schedule in the conference. The article mentions the Buffaloes will play against some of the Big 12's best in Arizona, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Utah, making it difficult for Colorado to make a bowl game.
