The second preseason camp under head coach Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders is underway, as Colorado football gets ready for the start of the 2024 college football season. Sanders commanded plenty of attention during his first year at the helm, as the Buffaloes got off to a 3-0 start before finishing with a 4-8 record. The Colorado football roster added many new pieces in the offseason for the second year in a row, and the Colorado football depth chart has returning star power in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way athlete Travis Hunter. First-year offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who has 21 years of NFL experience, will try to fine-tune the offense during fall camp.

With so much roster turnover, there are several position battles that will be decided during Colorado football fall camp. Top Colorado Buffaloes practice storylines

Priority No. 1 for Coach Prime and his staff this offseason was getting better on the offensive line. In 2023, Shedeur Sanders was the most-sacked FBS quarterback, and the constant pounding caused him to miss the team's regular season finale against Utah. All five starters from Colorado's offensive line in 2023 either graduated or transferred, so there will be new faces in the team's OL room this fall.

Former NFL offensive tackle Phil Loadholt was hired to be the team's new offensive line coach, replacing Boll O'Boyle. Loadholt has been tasked with finding the right five players to form CU's starting offensive line and getting them to gel before the team's season-opener on August 29. The most notable name of the new players in the mix is true freshman Jordan Seaton, who was a five-star recruit and the third-highest rated player to ever sign with Colorado, according to 247Sports. Another priority for the Buffs this offseason was improving the team's rushing attack. Running backs coach Gary Harrell has arguably the most hotly contested competition going on in the program during preseason practice, with up to five players in the mix to earn playing time. The Buffaloes brought in a pair of transfers in the offseason in Dallan Hayden (Ohio State) and Isaiah Augustave (Arkansas), who join former walk-on Charlie Offerdahl atop the projected depth chart.

Harrell's approach heading into last season was identifying the top two backs who will receive the bulk of the carries, and his approach is the same this year. The offensive line struggled to create running lanes for last year's backfield, so the rushing attack never got going. Colorado will be looking to make sure that doesn't happen this season, and figuring out the depth chart during practice is one priority for the coaching staff.
