BRADENTON, Fla. (WFLA) — An Ellenton man was arrested Tuesday after he left a girl alone in a hot car for “several hours,” according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 20, Markise L. Outing, 24, showed up at a Bradenton fire station seeking medical attention for an unconscious 6-year-old girl, identified as his girlfriend’s daughter.

“(She) even appeared, after paramedics started to look at her, that she may be in cardiac arrest. They did everything they could right there on the floor of the fire station to revive the child,” Randy Warren, the Public Information Officer with MCSO said.

She was rushed to the hospital with a core body temperature of 107.2 degrees. She died about three hours later.

Outing initially told deputies the girl overheated while playing in a park, but investigators found she was left alone inside a parked car at his workplace for “several hours,” according to a news release.

“We tracked back to where he might have been. And he did not go to the park. His story does not line up with what has turned out to be the facts,” Warren said.

The sheriff’s office said GPS evidence revealed he picked up the girl from school, drove to work and left her in the car with the windows rolled up. The car’s temperature was estimated to have reached 115 degrees and an autopsy determined the child died from extreme heat. Medical staff reports the child core body temperature was 107.2 degrees.

“There was some vomit in the car. There was stuff that showed that the child had been sick,” Warren said. “

Warren said the child’s mother told investigators the girl would’ve been in a booster seat. She said her daughter was capable of climbing out of the car and had no disabilities to keep her from doing it.

“(Outing) has said some things to her like he’s sorry, but we have not received any statements from him to where he admits to having left her inside the vehicle,” Warren said.

Outing was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child.
