Low pay is driving away Louisiana's early childhood education teachers, survey says
While Louisiana has made progress in expanding early childhood education for thousands of children, most workers still don't earn a living wage, according to a recent survey. New Orleans, however, is tackling some of the problem through local taxpayer money — a major source of funding for early education that's helped standardize the minimum wage for teachers.
Embracing the transition: Preparing for a new school year
As summer begins to fade and autumn approaches, a familiar transition period enters our lives. For our family, the end of summer signals the beginning of a new school year, a time filled with anticipation, excitement and, sometimes, a bit of apprehension. As Catholic parents, my wife and I strive to guide our four children through this transition smoothly, grounding our efforts in faith and practical preparation.

Dominican juniors garner college book awards
Fifteen St. Mary’s Dominican High School juniors were presented book awards from universities and colleges to celebrate achievements of the junior class. The annual book awards are in recognition of academic excellence, strong character and commitment to community service. School counselors, teachers and administrators nominate the student or students they feel best embody the criteria set by each college or university.
Purple Star School program tailored to military families
Military families move on average every two to three years. The Purple Star School program, introduced to Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic schools at the end of the last school year, is one tool schools can utilize to respond to the educational and emotional challenges military children can face during their transition to a new school.
The Past Four Years In The Music Department
After all of the music department’s hard work these past four years, it is unfortunately time to say goodbye to the seniors. The seniors in the music program at MHS have not had a smooth high school experience, considering the effects of COVID-19 on in-person learning and musical opportunities. However, this has not stopped them from spreading the art of music around the school.
