A baby is fighting for life after a dog attack.

"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that at around 12:40 p.m. today, June 23, 2024, deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office were called to the 200 block of 10th Street in Bridge City after a dog attacked a child," Captain Jason Rivarde said in an email.

When deputies got to the home, they found a four-month-old boy suffering from severe injuries.

"(He) was attacked by a family’s member’s dog. The victim was in an infant carrier, which was placed on the floor after the victim and his family entered the residence."

A family member pulled the dog off of the infant.

"The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries which include multiple severe lacerations and a fractured skull."

Rivarde says the injuries are life-threatening.

"The dog, a two-year-old American Bully, was seized by Animal Control officers."

The United Kennel Club says the breed is derived from a Pitt Bull.

"The American Bully breed developed as a natural extension of the American Pit Bull Terrier."

    The UKC says

"The American Bully breed was subtly influenced by the infusion of several other breeds, which include the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, English Bulldog, and Olde English Bulldogge."
