    Corrections officer stabbed repeatedly by inmate wielding a shank

    A corrections officer at the Hubbard County Jail was hospitalized after being stabbed by an inmate.

    According to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, the corrections officer was sitting at a desk in a housing unit on Aug. 7 when an inmate exited his cell and attacked the him.

    The accused inmate — identified as 23-tear-old Cole Pigeon of Bayport — is said to have stabbed the officer multiple times with a shank, cutting his head and face.

    Other corrections officers eventually arrived at the scene to assist. The victim was taken to St. Josephs Hospital in Park Rapids, where he was treated for stab wounds.

    According to an investigation, Pigeon made the shank out of a bracket from a table in the recreation room. He also stated that he had stalked the officer before the stabbing and claimed he would stab other officers, according to the sheriff’s office.

    Pigeon is being held in Hubbard County Jail on charges for criminal property damage and assaulting a peace officer. He now faces first, second, third and fourth-degree assault charges.
