BRISTOL, R.I. (WPRI) — Festivities for Bristol’s annual 4th of July celebrations continued on Saturday as the holiday — and the parade — is just a couple of days away.

Since Friday, June 21 concerts in Independence Park have been attracting big crowds, and tonight is no exception.

“So the concert series, everybody comes down they see people they might not have seen all year long or for years,” Tammy Mojowski, co-chair of the Bristol 4th of July concert series, told 12 News on about the event. “So families get together and they have a really good time, listen to some great music and enjoy each other’s company.”

The band playing on Saturday was “Back in the Day,” a 1980s tribute band.

“People love coming down here,” Scott Cooper, the band’s lead singer, said. “It’s a great atmosphere. We’re right on the water, it’s beautiful.”

This is the 49th year of there being a concert series and the town’s 239th 4th of July celebration.

This year’s concert series will go on until July 2.
