World's best unicyclists battle for glory in Bemidji
BEMIDJI, Minn. — Hundreds of athletes, 12 days of fun and just one wheel. Unicon 21, the unicycling world convention and championships, is underway at Bemidji's Sanford Center. There's more to these competitions than just riding a unicycle. Some cyclists will compete artistically, some will face off in unicycle hockey or basketball games, and some competitions focus on speed. And if you aren't competing you can still enjoy the convention full of vendors, lessons and entertainment. Unicon 21 began on Sunday and runs through July 26.The event has been held before in places like South Korea and France.
Bishop, Central Minnesota Residents Join Thousands at 10th National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis
(KNSI) – Dozens of central Minnesota residents made the pilgrimage to Indianapolis for the 10th annual National Eucharistic Congress. The event began in May when over 10,000 people started walking to the city carrying the Eucharist. On the way, the march stopped at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. The congress is the first gathering of its kind in 83 years. Bishop Patrick Neary of the Diocese of St. Cloud called the event historic. “I mean, how many American Catholics have been to one of these national celebrations? And so we are so blessed, but you guys really are the base of Christ. You are his disciples as missionaries. With the joy you have, the example of your family lives, your faith and your commitment.”
Wildlife Photography Displays and Highlights Conservation
DULUTH, Minn. — There are lots of ways to get a message across. For some, all it takes is a photograph to add a new perspective to a topic. That’s the mission for this researcher. Dr. Cameron Whitley teams up with conservation photographers and uses animal imagery to promote climate and conservation issues. Some of these portraits were displayed today at the Lake Superior Zoo. Pictures like these tell a story, helping people better understand animals and their lives. Through research, Whitley discovered a pattern with the pictures.
Hermantown SummerFest Highlights Local Businesses
HERMANTOWN, Minn. — Hermantown SummerFest is this week and is filled with lots of ways to have fun in the community. The weeklong celebration is all about supporting local businesses.
