Investigators did not violate rights in college gambling probe, state says in filing
Attorneys for the state have filed to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the investigation that roiled Iowa collegiate athletic programs and resulted in multiple criminal charges. More than 20 people, mostly student athletes at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, were accused last year of underage gambling and identity theft, the latter for allegedly using other peoples' online gambling accounts to place wagers on athletic events. Nineteen pleaded guilty and were fined $645 for underage gambling, while six more had their charges dismissed.
German American Heritage Center & Museum named Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area site
The German American Heritage Center & Museum has another historical distinction to add to its lengthy accolades. The center in Davenport has received official designation as a Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA) site. Representatives from the German American Heritage Center & Museum, Silos & Smokestacks, Senator Ernst’s office, Iowa Travel Industry Partners and various heritage area sites and partners were present to commemorate the event.

Muller's Jazz-O-Maniacs; The Dooley Band; and the Bix Youth Jazz Band.

Man Sentenced To Life in Prison For Killing Dubuque Woman
A man was sentenced to life in prison without parole Monday for killing a Dubuque woman in 2021. 25 year old Romell Enoch received the mandatory sentence during a hearing in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after previously being found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 20 year old Kylie Duster of Dubuque. A jury reached its guilty verdict on May 6 after four hours of deliberation following three days of testimony. Police found Duster dead in her Dubuque home on July 28, 2021, after she had not been seen for multiple days. She was found in her bedroom closet with a piece of white fabric in her mouth and injuries to her face and neck.
